Route Description:

Welcome to the Midland Meander 200km. The ride is set in the lake country of Ireland starting and finishing in the picturesque village of Multyfarnham (overall Tidy Towns Winner in 1977) less than 10km from Mullingar, just off the N4 and less than an hour from Dublin. The route takes us on lovely back roads through Castlepollard and on towards Oldcastle via Lough Crew (short and sharp). Then on up into Cavan where there will be a control in Ballinagh (75.6km) before squeezing in between the numerous lakes at Lough Gowna, over Corn Hill and then on to the second Control at Carrickboy (134.3km).  After that, it’s over to Abbeyshrule then on to Ballymore and home via Frewin Hill with a nice little final 3km downhill into Multyfarnham. There are two great little pubs there to get re-hydrated in and one with award winning food !  The route is fairly flat by Audax standards although us midlanders would consider it hilly enough. There are no long climbs on the route but some fabulous expansive views. With a good contingent expected from the local club, Lakeside Wheelers, you should rarely be on your own, so come on down and join us for a day of relaxed cycling in lovely countryside. Water will be provided at Controls, but otherwise this is a self-catering event, and riders should bring or buy their own food.
