Route Description
The route was conceived to provide a bit of variety, as a permanent for Munster riders doing a RTTY. So, it’s primary requirements were to be suitable and safe to ride solo and not to be too difficult.

The route starts in Ballymacarbry, on bank of Nire river, a tributary of the Suir, and immediately climbs the Comeraghs via the Bog Road before descending via Powers the Pot and Glenpatrick stream to the Suir at Kilsheelan.

From here the route is gently undulating as it comes around the western flank of Slivenamon and heads north towards the bog lands east of Thurles. From here we pick up the Suir near its source and head south following it all the way to Newcastle at the base of the Knockmealdowns via Holycross, Golden, Cahir and Ardfinnan.

Route now heads south with a difficult climb up Suir Valley to crest of Knockmealdowns before descending to the Blackwater valley and southern control at Villerstown. East now as we head towards N72 and the only 2km of main road on route.

The route from here is difficult as it rises from the old Blackwater valley and traverses the foothills of the Comeraghs as we return to start at Ballymacarbry.

The route has a difficult start and finish with primarily backroads used. It’s not a ride for deep section Reynolds wheels and some paper racing tyres.
Cahir is the only place where you’ll get café/supermarkets on route

Given the time of year, and  the fact that there are a number of long climbs, lights will be mandatory in accordance with Audax Ireland rules.

This event is available as a Permanent.
Please note that a Cycling Ireland annual licence will be required to take part in a Permanent. Day licences will not be available for Permanents. Payment for Permanent as per the event details above.
