Route Description:
This is a scenic route on good surfaces. It takes in all the Galway locations of Brevet Hiberniae. The route starts beside Coláiste Chamuis, Camus, Co. Galway (Eircode: H91 X850). The route goes South to Trá An Dóilin (Coral Strand) for the first control point – one of the Brevet Hiberniae locations.

Returning back through Carraroe and going left you will pass through the townland with the longest placename in Ireland: Muiceanach Idir Dhá Sháile, also on Brevet Hiberniae. Crossing the bog from Rosmuc towards Cashel, the route turns North, includes 2k on the busy N59 then into the Inagh Valley with spectacular views. Onwards to the Connemara Loop, through Tully Cross, Letterfrack (100km) and another short stretch of main road until the turn to Cleggan. You’ll travel the Sky Road into Clifden that involves the only significant climb of the day. The Wild Atlantic Way viewpoint on the Sky Road is the second control and also on Brevet Hiberniae. A quick descent leads into Clifden at 138km.

After Clifden you’ll cross the Roundstone Bog and on to Cashel, turning right for the last control of the day at Carna (174km). The final leg brings you back to Screebe and Camus.

The route is mostly good surfaces, with a few short stretches with grass down the middle. Controls in Trá An Dóilin (Coral Strand) 18km, Sky Road (133km), Carna (174km).

There is a long stretch from Carraroe (21k) to Letterfrack (100k) where there are no shops directly on the route. A short diversion to shops is possible near Recess (62k) or Kylemore (77k). After Letterfrack there are shops in Cleggan, Clifden, Carna, Kilkieran.

There are nominal controls along the way – but there is little benefit in going off route.

Routesheet: will be issued close to the event date

Queen of Connemara 100

There is also a 100km option, as detailed below. Please make sure to choose the correct “ticket” on Eventmaster for your preferred distance !

The Connemara 100 uses the same route as the “Queen of Connemara 200” as far as 55km. It has plenty of spectacular scenery, including sea, bog and mountains.

The 100k route turns left on the R340 at 55.3km, signposted Glinsce / Carna. Take a right turn at 62.4K onto L1207 signed Leitreach Ard. At this junction Glinsk House has a cafe during the summer season. Follow this road to Carna where there is a shop (73k) hotel and filling station. The last stretch back to Camus undulates gently and rewards with fabulous views of Inishmor and Kilkeiran Bay. At 94k you’ll pass Padraig Pearse’s Cottage and visitors centre in Rosmuc (http://www.icpconamara.ie), showing you’re nearly done.

Take note, there are no shops on the route between Carraroe (21k) and Carna (73k), so ensure you are sufficiently provisioned for this stretch.
