Route Description:

A gentle 300k route that takes in the 2 main lakes on the River Shannon, Lough Ree and Lough Derg, in the midlands. This route travels through 7 counties over its distance.

Stunning views are on hand over both lakes and the surrounding countryside as this route takes an anticlockwise route around both lakes through gentle country roads that are among the best in Ireland.

Starting off in Westpoint Business Centre, Monksland, Athlone, Co. Roscommon, @ N37 X8FS, the route takes a southerly direction, through the Galway towns of Ballinasloe and Portumna, all the way down to the southerly most point of Lough Derg in the small town of Killaloe Co. Clare.

From here the route takes a northerly turn heading back up through Cloghan, Co. Offaly passing through the likes of Terryglass and Lorrha in Co. Tipperary, and on to Mount Temple and Glasson Co. Westmeath, to Lanesboro/Ballyleague at the northernmost point in the route, at the top of Lough Ree.

From here you head westerly to Roscommon town and then southerly on some quiet rolling roads back to Athlone.

Plenty of opportunities for stunning photos await all participants and ample food and coffee stops along the way ensure this is one Audax not to be missed.

Additional Info: (parking etc): Plenty of parking at SuperSavers/Tile Warehouse in Westpoint Business Centre. N37X8FS.
