Q is for Qualification.

Qualification for PBP is easy, to understand anyway. Ride a 200km, 300km, 400km and 600km BRM event (Brevets des Randonneurs Mondiaux) any time before July 14th 2015. This is basically any Audax Ireland Calendar event except the Fleche. If riding events elsewhere, ensure they are BRM. (Audax UK also run events under their own rules which they mark BR/BP – qualification rides are marked BRM (PBP) in the AUK Calendar).

Unlike for Super Randonneur, longer rides may be substituted for shorter.

You can register as soon as you have completed at least three of the four qualifying brevets between October 31, 2014 and July 07, 2015.

Join cyclists all over the world in searching for the Golden Arches on Good Friday. Find a 24hr restaurant and be seen as a prophet by the rest of your team.

Anyone planning on riding PBP this year should seriously consider riding a flèche this Easter. This will give invaluable experience in planning, night riding and working as a team. The minimum distance is 360k as part of a 3-5 person team, which should be within all PBP hopefuls sights by early April.

Entry details from organiser are below, along with ACP rules. If you are looking for a team send your details to the forum, stating where you are based and your desired finishing  distance.

Teams

Just a reminder about the Easter Flèche 2015.  Would those who are planning/trying to get a team together please let me (Niall ndiamond@eircom.net)  know, together with a rough idea of the route – it doesn’t have to be a final version at this stage.  I would like to have an idea how many teams to expect.  I hope to ride myself, and to be at the finish in Mullingar on the Saturday morning from about 9am.  I would like to be there for finishing teams, but I don’t intend to stay for the whole weekend, so it would be great if the majority of teams could try to finish on Saturday, preferably by about 1pm.  If you can’t do that it’s not a problem, you will just have to make arrangements to get your teams Brevet Cards and proofs of passage to me afterwards.

At the moment the Finish will be in Reynos Café again, assuming they’ll have us.

So please get back to me with details of current team members (more can be added, minimum 3 max 5), team name if known, and rough route.  Minimum of 3 team members must complete at least 360km in 24 hours, including at least 25km in the final 2 hours in order to be homologated as a finishing team.

ACP Rules for info.

16/20 PBP

– All Irish qualifiers for PBP are listed above, earmark the ones that work for you and set aside those weekends. It is strongly recommended that you add ride both events in red, although neither acts as a qualifier.

– The qualifying series is where we learn our trade, try and ride as many brevets as is practical. The more you ride, the greater your experience and confidence. Always take a few moments after a ride to gather your thoughts and write down something that you learned that day. This doesn’t always have to be something profound, it could be as simple as don’t eat a hot curry the night before a 300k . Eventually you will draw up a list of what works or doesn’t work for you. No excuses for repeating the same mistakes! – Qualifiers consist of one of each of the following distances (200,300,400 & 600).

– Qualifiers can be ridden in any country, but always check with the organiser that they are PBP qualifiers.

– Irrespective of fitness or experience by Easter everyone should try and ride a Fleche, as 360k in a team environment should be well within everyone’s grasp by early April. This will provide invaluable experience in night riding, planning and will be a great boost to confidence.

– If all qualifying rides are completed by the end of May, take a break for 1 or 2 weeks from the bike this will give you a chance to replenish body and mind.

– If you do not manage to ride a 600 in May, the Celtic Knot 600 is a fall back qualifier.

– Your 600 should be ridden using the same bike, lighting and equipment that you will be using on PBP. This will be a perfect time to shake down everything and be confident in your bike set up

– Ride Celtic Knot 1000k, this will give invaluable experience at completing a longer distance and will leave you in a very healthy position for completing PBP.

Late July ride Brownstuff 400, this is a very challenging 400k strategically placed in the calendar 3 weeks out from PBP. We can use this as the last run out prior to PBP, at this point we will have peaked and with a good taper will be in ideal shape for Paris. Happy days, rest
