This is an easy to navigate route visiting 4 ROUND TOWERS in KILDARE at TAGHADOE, OUGHTERARD, OLD KILCULLEN and finally KILDARE TOWN.
Starting at WHITEHALL CHURCH heading for BALLYCOOLIN, DUNBOYNE, CARTON HOUSE, MAYNOOTH, heading south via STRAFFAN, KILTEEL and BALLYMORE EUSTACE taking in the round towers at TAGHADOE and OUGHTERARD. Heading west from BALLYMORE, visting the third roundtower at OLD KILCULLEN then on to ATHY, by way of CALVERSTOWN and NARRAGHMORE. Head north from ATHY, to the fourth and last of the roundtowers in KILDARE TOWN, threading through the town to KILMEAGE, PROSPEROUS onto KILCOCK. From KILCOCK head for MULLAGH XRDS, turning right into DUNBOYNE, retracing the outward route back to WHITEHALL CHURCH.
It is primarily a flat route with good roads. The road undulates slightly on the approach to BALLYMORE and then as the route heads back towards the flatlands of KILDARE from BALLYMORE. Plenty of places to grab a coffee or a sandwich on route.
