The Brown Stuff 400 is intended as a serious challenge for the experienced cyclist. Running the gamut of Leinster climbs, it will place heavy demands on even the fittest of riders.  No support will be provided.

Dave’s description of the route follows:

It essentially heads straight up from the start at the Yellow House pub in Rathfarnham to the Sallygap, then on to Laragh, over the Shay Elliott and Slieve Maan to Aughavanagh, then to Knockananna and on to the first control at Tinahely. It then goes across to Shillelagh, Clonegal, Kildavin and Myshall. It then goes up Corrabut Gap and on to the 9 stones. It drops from there to Borris, then across to Graiguenamanagh and Thomastown, Knocktopher, Newmarket, Kilmaganny and into the second control at Carrick-on-Suir. From there it heads onto the ‘Comeragh Drive’ for Rathgormack and Clonmel. From Clonmel to Fethard, then Killenaule. From here, I’ve to decide on one of two routes to Castlecomer, (with either a control in Freshford or Castlecomer). From there, we head over the Butts and onto the Ridge, and down to Old Leighlin and Leighlinbridge. Then it’s across to the Fighting Cocks, Tullow, Hacketstown (control), Kiltegan, Ballinclea, Donard, Hollywood, Ballymore Eustace, Blessington, Threecastles, Manor Kilbride, Brittas and back to Rathfarnham over Ballinascorney. It’ll be a few km over the 400, but to borrow Kevin’s phrase from the Borlin 300, I won’t be charging extra for those.
