Titanic Torr Details

I have just sent details to all registered riders. If you don’t receive anything in the next ten minutes or so, let me know as it means my slick administrative system has failed.

Here are the details anyway in case:

All,

Thanks for registering for Titanic Torr 2017.  There are 37 riders registered.

Richard Guthrie is out today riding the route today so will give last minute feedback in the morning.

A few notes for the day.

THIS IS A FULLY SELF SUPPORTED EVENT

  • Make sure you and your bike are well prepared for the conditions.  Hopefully we won’t get last year’s snow but check the weather and times of darkness.
  • due to logistical reasons I am unable to supply sarnies or moral support at Hunters this year – sorry.
  • If you can’t finish txt and let me know +447966255887. But don’t expect me to come and get you!

START /SIGN ON / FINISH:

Main entrance to Stormont estate, opposite Stormont Hotel, Upper Newtownards Road https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@54.5941619,-5.8400886,18z

Parking at gate or opposite in car park.

Sign on starts at 7:30.

When you finish – post your completed brevet card, receipts etc. into my car through open window.

If I am there I should have medals for those ordered – if not you’ll get them in the post (some weeks) later.

IF YOU OWE ME MONEY – PLEASE HAVE EXACT CHANGE.

CLOSES AT 7:50 PLEASE BE PROMPT.

Due to the high number of riders – I will be starting in 2 groups separated by a couple of minutes.  This is to get everyone through Belfast.  Group allocations are at the bottom of this email – if you want to be with your mates just jump in with them – so long as no group is too big!

SAFETY

Please look out for each other – signal holes etc. and always join/overtake on the right.  THIS IS NOT A RACE!

It gets dark about 8:30pm, cut off time is 9:30pm so you might want to bring some lights.

Remember, this is a self-supported event.

If you drop out please text me on +447966255887 so I’m not waiting for you at the finish.

ROUTE:

Route is the same as last year.

Apart from where noted below or unforeseen events – ACP rules state you should follow the route and, if you leave it, re-join where you left.

You are free to use any route from Straid (180km) back to Stormont e.g. Loughshore cycle path, Comber Greenway etc.  I have routed in same way as out.

The loop around the back of Odyssey to cross the Titanic Launch slipway is optional.

There are currently road works/road closed signs from the coast up to Ballynure on the return leg.  I’ve been up this route the last two Sundays and the road is open with a nice shiny new surface but has sticking out ironworks and some ramps.

Routesheets will be available at sign on.

Roads are generally fair to good.  Please watch for surface gravel on Torr Head.

You will need to obtain proof of passage (Receipt or signature of Audax Ireland Committee member) at controls.

FOOD

Good availability of shops along the way/at controls. Mary McBrides pub in Cushendun does great seafood chowder.  Also soup and a sandwich if you ask for it.  I believe the Café on the left just past hunters (towards B’Castle) is good – but I’ve no experience myself.

See you Saturday,

Stuart.
